Silicon Valley Startup Camp (SVSC)

Each year from 2013 to 2019, BCV brought a group of ten local students to Silicon Valley to immerse them in startup culture for a week. The SVSC was not run in 2020 because of the public-health situation.

Immersion in an innovation hotbed

The idea behind our SVSC project was to give local high-potential students interested in setting up their own business the chance to kindle their entrepreneurial spirit by an immersive experience in Silicon Valley.

The week-long Camp is run by BCV in conjunction with the University of Lausanne (UNIL), Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), and Vaud Canton's universities of applied sciences. The program is set up each year in collaboration with Swissnex San Francisco, an organization whose mandate is to strengthen ties between Switzerland and North America in the areas of science, education, art, and innovation.

Learning from the big boys

The ten students, selected by a group of experts, fly to California for a packed schedule of tailor-made workshops, visits to universities, meetings with venture capitalists, and insider tours of companies such as Airbnb, Square and Twitter. This gives them first-hand exposure to the entrepreneurial mindset that is so prevalent in the Valley.
