Structured products are composed of both derivative financial products (such as options) and traditional investments (such as stocks and bonds). The use of derivatives can increase, decrease, or eliminate investment risks. That means that the risk/return profile must be brought in line with your needs and expectations.
Warning on performance and risks
When investing in a structured product, investors must understand how the product works and all the risks involved. Structured products are only appropriate for investors who are aware of the risks involved in the planned transaction and able to bear the potential financial loss. A given structured product may therefore not be appropriate for all investors.
Investors must bear in mind the risks inherent in investing in structured products, including the risk of losing the invested capital. Past performance is no guarantee of current or future performance. The value of an investment may rise or fall for various reasons, and the investor may not recover the initial investment. Furthermore, changes in exchange rates may cause the value of investments to rise or fall for products issued in foreign currencies.
In legal terms, structured products issued by BCV are debt securities for which BCV is the debtor. Structured products are not collective investments within the meaning of the Swiss Federal Investment Fund Act (LPCC). They do not require approval from the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) and are not subject to FINMA supervision. As a result, investors are not protected by the LPCC. Investors are exposed to issuer risk, and the value of their investments does not depend solely on the performance of the underlying asset(s) but also on the solvency of the issuer, which may change during the product's lifetime.
You will also find specific information on risks in securities trading in the Swiss Bankers Association brochure “Risks Involved in Trading Financial Instruments.” That brochure includes information on the features and risks of structured products.
