Every bank account in Europe now has an International Bank Account Number (or IBAN), and these numbers must be used for international payments.

Learn more about IBAN

The growing number of cross-border payments requires constant efforts to ensure efficient processing. European banks have responded to this need by standardizing bank account numbers. Swiss banks, including BCV, are gradually implementing these standards.

Using IBANs will facilitate your international payments in a number of ways:

  • The process is automated, ensuring rapid execution. This means that beneficiaries receive their money faster.
  • For payments in Switzerland: you don't need to do anything for now. You can keep using your existing bank account as is.
  • For cross-border payments: if you are the beneficiary, you can provide your clients with your own IBAN. When you make payments, you can specify the beneficiary's IBAN as the bank account number (if the beneficiary included the IBAN on the bill).
