Acting on the recommendation of BCV's Board of Directors, the Vaud Cantonal Government yesterday appointed Aimé Achard as head of BCV's Business Support Division and member of the Executive Board. Mr. Achard holds a degree in computer science and specializes in business process reengineering and IT support systems in the banking sector. He will play a crucial role in defining and implementing the Bank's IT strategy for the coming years.
Key strategic role
BCV’s Business Support Division comprises the Bank’s back-offices for trading and payments as well as its communications, legal, compliance, infrastructure and IT (information technology) teams. These departments work together to provide integrated business support for the rest of the Bank. The head of this division plays a particularly crucial role regarding IT. In this, Aimé Achard's training in computer science and extensive experience in banking make him the ideal person to help BCV meet the challenges it faces in this performance-critical area. He will bring his considerable expertise to bear on the final phases of the IT strategy review that has been underway in 2005, working together with BCV’s subsidiary Unicible to finalize the Bank’s IT strategy for the coming years.
A highly talented and loyal executive
After receiving a computer science degree from Institut d’Informatique d’Entreprise (IIE) in Paris in 1978, Mr. Achard joined BNP Paribas Group, where he has worked ever since. He has held key positions in management of both IT system development and Operations in London, Oslo, Basel, Geneva and Paris. As Chief Operating Officer, he oversaw a complete overhaul of IT systems within BNP Paribas' Swiss private banking business. Mr. Achard is currently in charge of the operational integration of BNP Paribas Group's acquisitions in private banking.
Responsibility and enthusiasm
Mr. Achard, 51 years old and a French citizen, is married and the father of three children. He is well acquainted with Switzerland, having lived for several years in Geneva and Basel. He has successfully handled positions of major responsibility throughout his career and has been able to implement change with drive and contagious enthusiasm.
